Hazel the Practice Nurse

Created by derek russell 10 years ago
Hazel was a much loved and respected friend and colleague. Gloucester Road Medical Centre was the place where she finished a long and highly successful career as a Practice Nurse. She arrived as a larger than life character. We could recount many amusing stories of her working day and family life (usually about the grandchildren, but the highlight of her week was Baby Clinic! For those of you who know little of what happens in a baby clinic, suffice to say that we stick needles in small babies, they cry loudly and by 10.30 the headache is bad! Hazel was different.her babies seemed less distressed than ours. Why was this we asked? We were all trained in the same way and were experienced nurses. Then we found out her secret! As she injected the babies she sang to them asking the mums to join in with usually Humpty Dumpty or Twinkle Twinkle. How can you beat that? Needless to say the mums loved her.We still have patients talking about Hazel. She gave them such good care and they remember.Someone even spoke of her on the day she died. Hazel was unique,an exceptional nurse, and we will miss her. Ali,Helen,Mandy,Sarah,Louise,Margaret and Rosie The Practice Nursing Team at Gloucester Road Medical Centre
